Essential Job Responsibilities
This position coordinates the Accounts Payable and General Ledger functions for Cambria Solutions, as well as handling other related activities and projects.
The staff accountant maintains electronic and hardcopy vendor (incl. suppliers, subcontractors, etc.) records, receives and enters bills in the accounting system, secures payment approval and generates payments according to vendor trade payment terms and company policy. S/he interacts with suppliers and subcontractors to resolve A/P-related matters. S/he prepares and files all periodic, recurring non-income based commercial taxes, license renewals and fees, and quarterly income tax payments. The staff accountant reviews employee and company credit cards, downloads and posts to accounting software.
The staff accountant performs recurring accrual accounting analyses (payroll, benefits, PTO, cost of sales, prepaid expenses, deferred income, etc.) and posts general journal entries and reversals to the accounting system. S/he performs monthly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts (e.g., cash accounts to bank statements, etc.).
The staff accountant prepares and issues 1099-MISC forms and IRS transmittals after each year-end.
The staff accountant provides support in the fulfillment of planning & reporting exercises, and the annual external CPA audit. S/he ensures that all desk procedures are well-documented and maintained, and that mechanisms are in place for tracking process performance. S/he identifies opportunities for process improvement and offers recommendations for improving the accuracy and efficiency of those processes. S/he assists with initiatives to automate Cambria business processes and accepts ad hoc project assignments as required.
Position Requirements/ Competencies
The candidate should have a solid understanding of both cash- and accrual based financial accounting, including academic training. A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business is preferred. The candidate should have already spent a minimum of three to five years working in accounting roles. Experience working in a service business, especially one that serves State, Local or Federal government agencies is a plus. Advanced user skills and experience with QuickBooks is required. Candidate should have intermediate to advanced user skills in MS Excel. Candidate must be able to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced and changing environment and be able to handle stressful situations. Candidate should be well organized, focused, accurate and productive, and capable of handling a substantial workload. Candidate should be analytical and have strong problem-solving skills. Candidate should have good interpersonal relational skills, and should be able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form. Candidate should be dedicated to excellent customer service, quality and continuous improvement, and open and receptive to constructive critical feedback.
This is a salaried (exempt) position. There may be occasions when the Staff Accountant is asked to work extra hours.
Education and Relevant Work Experiences
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business preferred
3 to 5 years’ experience working as an accountant
Experience with QuickBooks, GL accounting, MS Office applications
