Sacramento information technology consulting firm Cambria Solutions Inc. is launching a program to attract 100 paid interns over the next five years.
The program is a way to give back to the community — and a way for the fast-growing company to recruit technology employees.
Cambria has been on the Inc. magazine fastest growing companies list for six of the past seven years.
Last year, Cambria ranked No. 2,831 out of the nation’s fastest growing companies on the Inc 5000 list. Cambria grew by 130 percent in three-year growth to have revenue of $15.2 million in 2013.
The company grew by about 30 percent in 2014, so it’s likely to be on the Inc list again this year, said CEO Robert Rodriguez.
Cambria has had interns several times in the past, but it is now building up a program to keep the interns coming. After starting a partnership with California State University Sacramento in the fall, Rodriguez wants to reach out to the University of California Davis and the University of Southern California State Capital Center in Sacramento to have a steady flow of students.
“Our goal would be to hire at least half of them,” he said.
Cambria started in Sacramento 12 years ago, opening its office in Los Angeles five years later. In the past three years, it has opened offices in Olympia, Wash., Atlanta, Washington D.C., Tallahassee, Fla. and Jackson, Miss.
Eventually, the company will spread its paid internship programs to those cities, he said. “We want to learn our lessons in one area, and then apply it in other cities.”
Cambria has 80 full-time employees and it can get up to 130 people with contract employees. The company likely will open an office in another city this year and it will have 20 offices by 2020, Rodriguez said. Cambria works in systems integration and consulting in government and health care.
